Ayres Sensory Integration
®
Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI)® is a therapeutic approach that can be incredibly beneficial for parents who have children with sensory processing challenges. This approach is designed to help children better process and respond to sensory information from their environment.
In simple terms, ASI® recognizes that each of us takes in and interprets sensory input from the world around us. This includes information from our senses, such as touch, movement, sight, sound, and more. For children who struggle with sensory processing, these everyday experiences can be overwhelming or challenging to manage.

ASI® therapy, offered by trained Occupational Therapists, works to address these challenges. It provides children with structured activities and experiences to help them develop and refine their sensory processing abilities. The ultimate goal is to help your child become more comfortable and confident in their surroundings, which can lead to improvements in areas like behavior, attention, and overall quality of life.

Jess Joubert has completed 3 out of the 4 training courses as part of SAISI. She aims to be certified ASI® therapist by June 2024.
MAES Therapy
MAES Therapy, which stands for "Movement Analysis and Education Strategies," is a specialized approach designed to help children with movement and motor control challenges.

MAES therapy is particularly effective for children who may have neurological conditions, such as cerebral palsy, developmental delays, or genetic syndromes, which impact their ability to move and interact with their environment.

If you believe that your child is struggling with motor control difficulties or has been diagnosed with a condition that affects their movement, MAES Therapy could be a valuable part of their care plan.

Jess Joubert completed her foundation level MAES training in December 2023. She is planning on attending the Advanced MAES training in December 2024
TOMATIS Method
®
The Tomatis® Method is a unique auditory stimulation therapy developed by Dr. Alfred Tomatis. It focuses on the connection between the ear and the brain, as well as how listening skills can impact various aspects of a person's life, especially children. The method is designed to help children, and individuals of all ages, improve their listening, attention, and communication abilities.

The Tomatis® Method involves the use of specialized electronic devices, including specially designed headphones that transmit altered sounds and music. These sounds are carefully calibrated to challenge the auditory system, encouraging the brain to adapt and improve its auditory processing abilities.

Jess Joubert is a level one Tomatis® practitioner.
Interactive Metronome
Interactive Metronome (IM) is a therapeutic program that focuses on improving timing, rhythm, and coordination skills. It utilizes a computer-based system combined with physical exercises to help individuals synchronize their movements with a precise auditory beat.

During an IM session, participants wear special sensors on their hands or feet, which are connected to a computer. They perform a series of repetitive motor tasks, such as clapping, tapping, or stepping, in coordination with a rhythmic beat generated by the computer. The program provides immediate feedback, indicating how closely the individual's movements align with the beat.

By engaging in these exercises, individuals can strengthen their ability to plan, sequence, and execute motor movements accurately. IM is often used as part of occupational therapy to address various cognitive, motor, and behavioral challenges, including ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, and motor impairments resulting from stroke or traumatic brain injury.

Overall, Interactive Metronome aims to improve attention, focus, coordination, and processing speed, leading to enhanced performance in daily activities and improved quality of life.
